Well, what I am complaining about pretty much sounds like like how running a hotrod on low octane gasoline feels. It's been well over a year since I put in good 5651s, so I just went ahead and replaced those. This quieted things down but di...

Romy,Take a look at the output from the HP amp with a scope to make certain you do not have a high frequency oscillation in the amp. Under headphones this would be very seriously reinforced. Then check to see if you have a very low frequency oscillat...

My best way so far to to listen to her has been with this recording:http://www.amazon.com/Hildegard-von-Bingen-Heavenly-Revelations/dp/B00000141Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303176347&sr=8-1After 2 days of a complete starvation. Meditarrenean win...

The 834p is a tried and true circuit. It should be OK. If you have hum, I would suspect the step up transformers first and the power supply second. Maybe a ground lead is not attached?Take it completely out of the system, disconnect the phono leads, ...

Chirag, my amplifier is passive pre and tube power, with input selector relay-based, and with no pre-out so there is unfortunately no easy way for me to utilize it for my purposes. My initial idea was to do just that, but then I would have to keep it...

I don't know Jessie, but I also have listened to the files several times and I stand on my comments. The file DAC 1 is the one that I find more "loose" with more room defining bass, and DAC2 the one with some sort of better harmonic definition. The o...

Romy, have you considered the nearfield monitor route with a "decent receiver", perhaps a "softer" older PP tube model, or even an Adcom? LS35As are the fallback nearfield option, and they can be fun, and I would guess that there are ...
Actually it is not about the “3D quality of silent passages” but about the silence being the PROPER continuation of the non-silent passages. I think I have cracked this one and thinking about it more I believe I have an ans...

Rony, I do not relay know. I never played the Internet Feeds on my “big” playback; in fact I never had those intentions. I think it will be horrible. I usually listen those Internet streams via headphones and a computer while I am working. The Cat ...
The music links don't work for me. They're pointing at http://localhost/...? I'd love to hear some music.
Yep, shame on me! My 10-second deployment strategy did not work, did it? :-) Anyhow it should be fine now. Do not...

Hi Collin,
Hello Andy,I like your recordings although i am listening on headphones which i normally do not use. My Main setup is not operational right now. They do sound clean, clear and dynamic.
If you get your main setup opera...

I most likely do not talk about decays or noise. It might be some kind harmonic inflictions in ultra low frequencies that have longer reverberation time, I do not know. What I do know that when playback enters a state of sonic audio silence some play...

Antonio,
Reading your comments, I would like to ask if you did not possibly confuse the names of the two files, assiciating your comments to the other file in each case? (I just checked to make sure that I did not make this same mistake, as it wou...

As the life nowadays runs in a very different schedule then
it was years back I recently discovered a new invention of mankind – those little
headphones that can be connected to phone. God, they turn out make the commune

I used a set of 2-way near-field monitors and a decent sealed commercial subwoofer in a study room that was quite enjoyable. Mostly listened to FM. That room was not much more than 3m x 3m with lots of alcoves, slanted ceilings and a thick nylon rug....

Hi Scooter!
I have tried the SR-009, SR-007, SR-507, and SR-407 many times over a total of some 5 hours with a variety of sources but always with some Stax branded amplifier. Every time I thought / suspected that the big Stax...

But doesn't putting the drivers on an inward-firing arc more or less shoot all the sound into a point, like the opposite of the Big Bang? This seems like an invitation to phase problems in the real world, and it also seems like it could bugg...

Looks like the SPL headphone amp thing-ee is mostly about generating/getting sound effects for/from headphones. At this point, I think what I want is an "intact" signal at unity gain going to each of 5 channels. This should mean that the blended, c...

http://www.webbtjanst.se/lenco/loudspeakers.asp shows some photos of unfinished horns. Comments on mouse-over.The 250Hz horns are probably not super optimal since I'm crossing over at, I think, around 1600Hz right now. Yes, the little horns...

I sometimes listen to a little DX radio with crappy headphones, but not much of the "difficult" modern music gets aired around here. I may have some Schoenberg LPs that I never listen to, really can't talk about. What I often hear is along the lines ...

Romy, thanks for another nudge toward Bruckner. I was not at all aware of Schuricht before your post, and I do like what I heard of his 8th and 9th via headphones, off the computer, although I realize this is a just thumbnail version. You have said s...

The CD got here in maybe 2 days, "Letters For The Future", Time For Three, DG label. It is structured and played as a concerto. I just played it via my Accustic Arts Drive 1 transport/iDAT 44++ DAC, etc. I am glad I got the CD, as it makes the Music ...

Romy, this is a classic case of our "memories" telling us something that our ears refute. Here, you are working against not only the initial limitiations of the design but also the effects of age on everything that did not get replaced during the re...

Well, I have just taken receipt of my Orelo speakers (pic attached) - the bigger version of the Orelino speakers, with 3x 15" bass drivers per channel as opposed to 3x 12" drivers.I realize that Romy doesn't regard the coaxial BMS mid/high compressio...

See link below for some marketing hype relating to the audio potential for graphene. Somewhat interesting title given the mediocre performance of modern (all) headphones. But new technologies always hold some future hope:

Although I mostly buy CD's, I have never been a fan of the format and still prefer LP's. As such I would welcome some value added content. The trouble is, I suspect it won't be music (the only real value added content of interes...

Gentlemen, I can only hope to be wrong on the air-borne feedback.Actually your project Anthony made me think of coming back to my Staxquiades project - a Milq inspired monster amp for my Stax headphones. Do you have a source of big PSU Nichicons at ...
